Peter Andre makes big career announcement on GMB as he bags huge role in West End

Peter Andre has announced that he’s returning to the theatre circuit – after bagging himself a role in Grease The Musical.

The Mysterious Girl singer, 49, will play the role of radio announcer Vince Fontaine in the beloved high school musical from May at London’s Dominion Theatre on the West End.

Peter spilled the beans on Thursday’s Good Morning Britain – whilst speaking to hosts Ben Shephard and Susanna Reid.

Although Peter has starred on the West End theatre circuit before, he told ITV viewers his new role is a career first for him as his first extended theatre stint – describing it ‘like a residency’.

Speaking about his new West End job, Peter said: “It’s at the Dominion Theatre. It’s Grease I’m in, who doesn’t love the film Grease? And to come and see the stage show is amazing.

“Now we’ve toured this show and it’s been incredible, but to be in the West End in one of the biggest theatres. I mean it’s a dream come true for anybody, and it’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

“Even though I’ve dabbled in the West End, this is my first residency, I don’t know if the word’s residency, but it’s my first long stint I’ve got there and I’m so, so excited!”

The singer will play Vince Fontaine in the classic musical – which will take place at London’s Dominion Theatre

He admitted he had initially asked show runners if he could play the main role of 19-year-old Danny in the musical, but realised he probably wasn’t suited for the role as a 49-year-old despite being a good fit a few years ago.

He went on to explain that although he’s playing Vince, he’ll also be taking on other characters from time to time.

Peter has previously played the role of Teen Angel as well as Vince in Grease, but this will mark his first permanent West End spot.

Outlining the play on the Dominion Theatre’s site, a statement reads: “Grittier and more electrifying than ever before, the world’s best-loved musical makes a triumphant return to the Dominion Theatre.

Peter said it’s his first extended stint on the West End

After a whirlwind summer romance, leather-clad greaser Danny and girl-next-door Sandy are unexpectedly reunited when she transfers to Rydell High for senior year. But can they survive the trials and tribulations of teenage life and find true love once more?

Bursting with hits including Summer Nights, Greased Lightnin’, Hopelessly Devoted to You and You’re the One That I Want, this thrilling new production is directed by the Leicester Curve’s Artistic Director Nikolai Foster, and choreographed by the legendary Arlene Phillips.”

The show will run for 26 weeks this year, from 3 May until 29 October.
