Piers Morgan online 'troll arrested after death threats sent to star and his son'

A man has reportedly been arrested after an online troll allegedly sent ‘chilling death threats’ to Piers Morgan and his son Spencer Morgan.

The 56-year-old TV presenter and his 28-year-old son Spencer claim to have received a number of harrowing and sinister threats online from an internet troll.

The former Good Morning Britain presenter has called for action against people who troll celebrities online.

Piers said: “People think it’s perfectly OK to make death threats to public figures on social media but it’s not — there has to be a line drawn, especially when family members are targeted.

“That’s why I reported it and I am grateful to the Met Police and Greater Manchester Police for taking it so seriously.”

The Sun claims that the troll added a “promise” that the TV star was “getting killed”.

One message allegedly sent to Piers said: “You’re a marked man. Calling the police, big tech or beefing up your security isn’t going to stop us getting to you, this isn’t a threat Piers, it’s a promise. You’re going to get killed’.

It’s claimed the troll then messaged Piers’ son, Spencer, and said: “If you don’t get your dad, you’re getting it or your mum.”

Since the claim has been reported, it’s understood a man has been arrested under the Malicious Communications Act.

The man in question is said to have been arrested on suspicion of sending death threats on August 3, and his phone and tablets have been removed for forensic analysis.

It is understood that no decision on a charge has yet been made but that the man has reportedly been released on bail.

Met Police and Greater Manchester Police have been approached for a statement.

The Met Police were unable to confirm an arrest to The Mirror.
