Stand-up comedian Rhod Gilbert has been in an A&E dash with his wife Sian Harries amid his Stage 4 cancer battle.
Sian shared an update on the ‘absolutely rammed’ Accident and Emergency department in the early hours of Wednesday morning (December 29) – just weeks after Rhod himself offered a cancer update.
Taking to Twitter, Sian penned: “A&E absolutely rammed with people with hacking coughs, we were only ones there wearing masks. I just don’t get it.”

She added: “They’ve even got a sign that says, ‘Everyone beyond this point must wear masks’. So they only work in there then?”
Concerned fans soon flocked to the replies section asking after Sian and Rhod, as one begged: “In France the mask requirement for health appointments has not been dropped. Hope you/Rhod are okay.”
Sian then replied: “Yes thanks love. It does feel mad here.”
Another said: “Hope you are ok and sorted out now,” as Sian responded with red love heart emojis.
Someone else posted: “Hope you both are okay!” while a fourth follower said: “Hoping all is well with you both.”
In Rhod’s latest health update, he explained how he discovered he had Stage 4 cancer.
He explained: “I had a terribly sore throat, tightness through my neck. I was having to cancel shows because I couldn’t breathe.
“I was having all sorts of problems and we couldn’t get to the bottom of it. In May, I noticed lumps started popping up in places they shouldn’t be.”
He is currently receiving treatment at the Velindre Cancer Hospital in Cardiff, which is is a patron for – and was on a fundraising trek for the centre when he received his diagnosis.

He explained: “It turns out I’ve got Stage 4 cancer. I also caught Covid on that walk as well. I came home with cancer and Covid from a Velindre fundraising trek… the irony of that! I went as a Velindre patron and came home as a patient.”
The comedy star has undergone surgery, along with radiotherapy and chemotherapy, to treat the cancer – but confirmed to the BBC that he doesn’t know whether or not it has worked yet.
He is feeling “happy, positive and optimistic”, adding: “I’m feeling good and feel like I’m recovering day-by-day.
“Some days I’m well enough to do a bit of writing and I’ve got a feeling when I’ve got through all this there’ll be a show in it.”
