The Chase's Anne Hegerty defends Holly and Phil's 'queue jump' and slams 'rude' people

The Chase’s Anne Hegerty has defended This Morning’s Holly Willoughby and Phillip Scofield over “queue jumping” claims amid the late monarch’s passing.

Quizzer Anne, who stars on beloved ITV gameshow The Chase, has defended Holly and Phil after claims swirl that they “jumped the queue” to see Queen Elizabeth II lying-in-state.

Taking to Twitter, Anne jumped to the duo’s defence when she penned: “My understanding is that Holly and Phil weren’t in a VIP line, they were in a press line and about to do a piece to camera.”

This comes as the public remain up in arms over Holly and Phil’s appearance at Westminster Hall where Her Majesty is currently lying-in-state.

With members of the public and celebrities like David Beckham and Sharon Osbourne queuing throughout the night, people have been threatening to “boycott” This Morning after seeing Holly and Phil dash down the side of the grand hall.

But ITV and This Morning are adamant that the duo didn’t “jump the queue” and say that “any allegations of improper behaviour are categorically untrue”.

ITV have released a statement regarding Holly and Phil’s attendance at Westminster Hall

An ITV spokesperson has said: “This Morning had press accreditation and like other media, Phillip and Holly were escorted to work from the press gallery by government staff. They did not file past The Queen’s coffin.

“They were there alongside a host of other broadcasters and national press outlets for an item that will be broadcast on Tuesday’s show. Any allegations of improper behaviour are categorically untrue.”

Despite the claims of “jumping the queue” and ITV slamming those claims, people are calling for fans to boycott This Morning when it returns to screens next week.

But boycotting the programme seems the mildest choice of criticism right now, with some other fans calling for the duo to be sacked from their jobs.

One person took to social media and said: “If Holly and Phil jumped the queue to see Her Majesty the Queen lying in state they should be sacked.”
