Tipping Point viewers were left irritated by host Ben Shephard after he accepted an answer to a question that many ITV viewers disagreed with.
The GMB star presented Thursday’s show wearing a dapper grey suit and shirt as he read out the questions to a fresh batch of hopeful all aiming to win the ultimate prize.
In one question, Ben asked the contestants to tell him what a sommelier is.
A sommelier is defined as a ‘wine steward’, a waiter or waitress that is in charge of the wines during service.
Jacob gave the answer of “champagne”, to which Ben said: “I can accept wine.”
Contestant Jacob replied with: “It’s a type of wine,” to which Ben said: “Erm, a sparkling wine, yeah.”
Fans quickly turned to Twitter to slam Ben for his response as they thought it was too far-fetched.
One viewer said: “How can you accept champagne? A sommelier isn’t a champagne expert!”
Another tweeted: “Hmm, you can accept champagne because it’s a type of wine? Bit unsure about that being accepted,”
While a third person wrote: “Not entirely convinced that a sommelier specialises in champagne though.”
Champagne is a type of sparkling wine, a topic that often sparks debate between the masses, and while a sommelier does not typically specialise in the beverage many modern sommeliers are training to cover champagne as well.
Fans of Tipping Point were also left reeling as another contestant failed to follow a rule within the same episode.
Gary was the last contestant left during the first round and therefore did not have to press the buzzer when he wanted to answer a question.
However, after Ben announced the trivia, Gary reached out and pressed his buzzer before responding.
Ben laughed at the move but people on Twitter seemed outraged at the contestant, calling his timing ‘terrible’, saying he was ‘having a nightmare’ and that he was ‘annoying them all game so far’.
Gary made it through to the final round and went up against the Tipping Point machine by himself, but unfortunately didn’t take home the top prize.
Ben asked an eager Gary whether he would like to gamble the money for a chance to win or take home the £10,000 he had won, plus the bonus prizes.
Gary decided it would be a safer bet to take his winnings and enjoy the money, a wise choice as they continued to play after he made his decision to no avail.
Tipping Point airs weekdays on ITV at 7pm
