Amy Winehouse biopic branded ‘distasteful’ by late singer’s friend Neon Hitch

A pal of singer Amy Winehouse has slammed the making of the late singer’s upcoming biopic – branding it ‘ridiculous’ and ‘distasteful’.

The film, entitled Back To Black, will delve into Amy’s rise to stardom as well as her music, love life and tragic death aged just 27 in 2011.

But Amy’s friend and fellow musician Neon Hitch, 36, says the new biopic has left her feeling “very angry.”

The chart-topping British pop star, known for her hits like F U Beta and Gold, told The Daily Star: “I was there that whole time the movie is being made about. And I feel very strange.”

“And I feel very strange,” Neon added.

Neon has called the biopic ‘distasteful’

Despite it being almost 12 years since Amy was tragically found unresponsive at her Camden townhouse, Neon believes that there is no need for the film to be made.

“It makes me very upset. Can you please all let Amy rest?!” Neon said.

“She’s done her thing, let her be. It really is very upsetting for people that love her.”

An Amy Winehouse biopic is currently being filmed

Actress Marisa Abela, 26, best known for BBC raunchy drama Industry – will be playing Amy in the new flick, which is directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson who directed Hollywood blockbuster Fifty Shades of Grey.

The new movie also stars Skins alum Jack O’Connell as Amy’s husband Blake Fielder-Civil.

And the decision to cast Marisa as Amy hasn’t gone down too well with some people – including Neon.

“The actress looks like she belongs on Coronation Street, not on the big screen. Amy is a true beauty, and it’s going to be very hard to fill her shoes,” she said.

Neon has said she was there the ‘whole time’ the biopic is being made about

Filming for the biopic is currently underway, with photos from the set having already made their rounds on the internet.

And one of the scenes shows Marisa as Amy, wearing a Blake badge in her famous beehive hair.

“That whole Blake badge that she’s wearing in her hair is just ridiculous,” Neon said.

“I was there to pick up that badge. It was very delicately, beautifully made by a lovely fan with loving care.”

She added: “And I hand delivered it to Amy, and she just put it in her hair.”

Amy died aged just 27 in 2011

Neon went on: “I don’t think this actress even knows the meaning of this badge.

“None of this is being taken seriously,” she added.

Calling the biopic, “distasteful,” Neon did note that it’s hard to give a full opinion without seeing the movie – which is due to be released next year.

But the singer-songwriter, who is gearing up for the release of her third album, hopes that “everyone is paying the respect that she deserves.”

She explained: “Amy is a person who always does everything for everyone around her. I hope that’s being received.”
