BBC Breakfast reporter awkwardly interrupted by passer-by during live broadcast

BBC Breakfast viewers were tickled as a sports reporter seemed to be approached for directions during a live broadcast.

Presenter John Watson had headed to Istanbul to cover the football match between Inter Milan and Manchester City and was reporting on the scene there when a man looking a bit lost ambled up.

The journalist was talking about the stories behind some of the football fans and looked slightly baffled as he was approached by the man, who was peering at a watch and clutching some paperwork.

As the man started to speak, apparently set to ask directions, John kept his cool and carried on with his broadcast without missing a beat.

The passer-by then seemed to clock the fact that the reporter was engrossed in something.

Looking back and forth between John and the camera, he realised that filming was in progress and quickly apologised and hurried away.

The presenter continued on with his broadcast, talking about the fans in Istanbul for the game.

Viewers were impressed with John’s skill and the way he didn’t let the moment derail the show.

“That was great,” one person tweeted.

“Live broadcasts always look tricky but you made it look easy,” they added.

Another person watching the hilarious moment clearly found it a bit awkward as they tweeted: “That was cringe.”

TV star John has kept his followers posted during his time in Istanbul, sharing various pictures on Instagram of what he has been up to.

One showed him sat with some others at a restaurant, as he told his fans: “Top team here in Istanbul, superb food too.

“The Turkish Eastenders on the TV though will take some topping.”

He later tweeted that there was an “incredible atmosphere” in the city.

BBC Breakfast airs from 6am on BBC One.
