BBC Breakfast's Carol Kirkwood's 'replaced' in shake-up as co-star admits 'she's run off'

BBC Breakfast kicked off the week with a major show shake-up as regular weather presenter Carol Kirkwood was nowhere to be seen.

The presenter, 60, lights up screens when she regularly shares the weather updates with viewers but was absent on Monday’s episode (February 20) of the morning programme.

Stepping in for the beloved Scottish star was fellow meteorologist Matt Taylor who warned Brits of a cloudy start across some parts of the country.

Addressing Carol’s whereabouts, Matt told the presenters: “This morning I think Carol has run off with a bit of sunshine in her bag”.

Carol’s absence comes shortly after Naga Munchetty issued a stern warning to her BBC co-star after he made a veiled dig at the weatherwoman.

While Naga and Charlie Stayt were sat on the red couch on Thursday (February 16), sport broadcaster Mike Bushell accompanied the duo as they discussed the dreary weather that recently made a return to the UK.

Charlie, 60, asked Mike if it was a wet morning when he arrived at work, which left the three broadcasters fuming over how grim and rainy the weather has become.

Leading into the weather, Naga said: “You’d hope that Carol would cheer us up, wouldn’t you?”

As Carol then appearing on the screen, Mike made an unexpected and dig as he exclaimed: “I don’t hold out much hope looking at her.”

“Oh. Oh,” responded a stunned Naga. “I don’t know if that came out as he meant.”

Insisting he was talking about the backdrop Carol was stood in front of, Mike could be heard saying: “The skies behind you”.

Naga continued: “You need to be careful Mike,” before warning: “The temper will come out there,” as she pointed to Carol on the screen behind her.
