Carol Vorderman has publicly criticised LBC presenter Nick Ferrari following an “insulting” statement he made on his show.
Countdown legend Carol condemned Nick on Twitter for using “humiliating” language to describe parents who cannot afford toothbrushes and toothpaste amid the UK’s cost of living crisis.
Speaking on his LBC radio show on Monday morning (February 6), the broadcaster reacted to new research that indicated four out of five UK teachers have given students oral hygiene products.

He said: “If you are a mum and, or a dad, and you haven’t got money to buy your child a toothbrush, you should never have become a parent in the first place.”
Carol held Nick accountable for his words and vouched that the broadcaster’s choice of language is “humiliating.”
Responding to a Twitter clip of his comments, Carol tweeted: “I grew up in poverty and language like this is humiliating.
“My mum (three kids and five part-time jobs) could only afford one tub of hot water per week.
“Sunday night a few inches of hot water in the bath and we’d take it in turns to wash quickly. No money for heating/clothes but she was a great mum.”

Elsewhere in the show, Nick said he could buy two toothbrushes for 25p in Asda and added that parents who can’t afford that are “spending their money in the wrong way”.
Another social media user wrote that his comments were “a simplistic and very insulting attitude to all parents struggling financially”.
They added: “Such views are held by people financially well set up who have no idea, or forgot what it is to struggle.
Carol was also praised for sharing her story.
One fan added: “Carol, I shamefully didn’t have you down as a candidate for 2023’s champion of the people, but everything you’re doing of late is truly amazing. Thank you! Solidarity. Could you and @MartinSLewis please take over the country.”
Another wrote: “Pls say it louder for those in the back.”
While a third penned: “Well said, Carol, You really are the people’s person for all your wisdom and everything you do.”
