Controversial host John Barrowman dealt fresh blow as ITV show All-Star Musical axed

ITV host John Barrowman’s show All-Star Musical has been axed by TV bosses, according to reports.

The show was a one-off contest which saw celebrities compete as they perform West End hits, but ITV bosses haven’t confirmed whether the show will ever return.

An insider told the Sun that the news was a “blow” for the Glasgow-born entertainer, who had left his Dancing on Ice gig to host the show.

“This will obviously be a blow for John, particularly as it was a job he relished keeping after he left Dancing On Ice.

“Barring any announcement of a secret, new TV venture, this represents his last role on a British TV show, which is a far cry from the days when he was on a variety of shows on various channels.”

As a huge stage and screen star, John has appeared in more than 40 shows, including I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here, Strictly Come Dancing and How Do You Solve A Problem Like Maria?

He first appeared on screens in 1993 as a co-host on a Saturday morning children’s show.

John went on to star in Doctor Who as Captain Jack Harkness and in the show’s spin-off Torchwood.

Allegations started to arise

It was during the filming for both shows that allegations of sexual harassment arose, The Guardian reported.

The allegations came to light when his co-star Noel Clarke was investigated for serious sexual misconduct.

Clarke once told an audience at sci-fi convention, Chicago Tardis, that John would expose himself “every five seconds”.

In an interview with Weekend magazine, John revealed that his behaviour was to “defuse awkwardness” whenever he was filming a sex scene in Torchwood.

“I’d be waiting in my trailer wearing just a robe with a sock over my ‘parts’ and if I were standing waiting to film a scene where I needed to be nude and someone came into view, I’d make a joke to put them and myself at ease,” he said at the time.

“My actions were simply designed to defuse any potential awkwardness among the cast and crew.”

However, early last year, John hit back at “cancel culture” and explained that his actions were just “tomfoolery”.

“I think the public understand that it was tomfoolery, a joke and silliness and wasn’t sexual harassment,” he told Good Morning Britain.

“You say that it was my party trick but everyone who was there, on set and part of the fun and enjoyed and laughed at the silliness that went on, we had a great time.”
