Coronation Street’s Colson Smith admits to ITV wardrobe blunder before weight loss

Coronation Street actor Colson Smith has confessed he had a bit of a wardrobe blunder on his first day on the ITV soap.

The soap star has played Craig Tinker since 2011 but his completely unrecognisable now, especially since he started his weight loss journey a few years ago.

Colson appeared on Tuesday’s episode of This Morning (April 18) alongside his pal and co-star Jack P Shepherd, who plays David Platt, to discuss their movie podcast which they record with fellow Corrie actor Ben Price.

But This Morning hosts Phillip Schofield and Rochelle Humes couldn’t help throwing it back a bit and showing the soap actors’ first scenes on Corrie.

Both were just young children when they joined the soap, and Colson, now 24, admitted he’d had a bit of an issue in the wardrobe department on his first day.

Colson confessed: “The jogger bottoms that I wore in that scene are the jogger bottoms I wore to work that day because nothing else fit.”

He doesn’t have that issue any more though, as the actor has had a massive 10-stone weight loss since deciding to change his life.

Colson started running during the Covid-19 lockdowns as he realised what he wanted from life.

His new lifestyle quickly became a staple in his life and he’s taken his followers on his journey ever since.

It turns out he’s been the victim of another blunder on-set though too – though through no fault of his own.

He revealed that Corrie legend Bill Roache, who plays Ken Barlow, calls him “Colin”, but he can’t bring himself to correct him.

Jack had a similar story too, as he said he said hello to Bill at the Corrie studio recently, and he replied: “Hello, David.”

Of course, David is actually Jack’s character’s name, but given the fact that they have worked together since 2000 – a whopping 23 years – he was stunned, still.

This Morning airs weekdays at 10am on ITV
