EastEnders star has six-word response as BBC fans urge for him to be axed

EastEnders star Max Bowden has issued a brief statement in response to viewers of the BBC soap calling for his axe.

The 28-year old joined the cast in 2019 as Ben Mitchell – the sixth actor to play the son of Phil Mitchell and Kathy Beale in the show’s history.

Waterloo Road alum Max spoke out after a newspaper article highlighted vitriol towards him on the web site, Digital Spy.

It prompted him to sarcastically reply: “Tbf, this is a glorious article.”

Thankfully though the negativity appeared to be outweighed by a number of supportive fans, who rushed to defend Max on the forum.

One fumed: “Think you’ll find this is the opinion of a small minority of fans! Both BenMax have a lot of support & especially after this week! Max is an incredible actor who continues to give outstanding, touching & heartfelt amazing performances highlighting important issues! Leave him alone.”

Another commented: “I loved the latest #Ballum scenes, Max. You and Tony did a phenomenal job as always. Didn’t know that Ben and Callum were David Attenborough fans until that couch scene. #EastEnders.”

A third added: “You are the best Ben Mitchell. How you embody the pain he’s been through all his life, you make it feel so real. People are just envious of your talent.”

And a fourth said: “You are doing an amazing job max loving the storyline. Ben and Stacey are my 2 favourite characters always have been. Can’t wait to see what else you get up to as Ben and as future characters.”

It comes after Max labelled trolls as “c***s” in June after Enders’ writer Daran Little was accused of hating gay characters.

In response to the abuse at the time, Daran explained he was “fed up” of being accused of such homophobic actions, declaring: “In my 35-year career in soap I’ve created and supported endless gay characters. Just, back off will you?”

It led Max to hit out on Twitter: “Quite literally responsible for Ballum’s creation in chemistry with his phenomenal “I smell queer” scene. A terrific writer.”

While people headed to the comments to state it was a “vocal minority” who were sharing the negative comments, it only prompted Max to share his annoyance even more.

He added: “Also stop tagging actors and writers in abuse and negativity. Our job is to tell the story!!! We work so hard to bring you two hours of content every week.

“Regardless on your view of a character or an episodes work, stop making it known to the people working their a*** off for it.”

With one final comment he said: “And also, you just look like a bit of a c**t. xoxox.”
