Emmerdale’s residents are about to get dragged into a complex storyline as Marlon and Rhona bring home baby Ivy.
Fans will remember that Rhona’s ex-husband Gus arrived earlier this year and asked if he could use their left over frozen embryos to have a baby with his new partner Lucy, who was unable to conceive. After repeatedly going back and forth on the idea, Rhona told Gus that he couldn’t use them.
Fast-forward several months later, Marlon bumped into Gus and a heavily pregnant Lucy at the hospital and came to the realisation that the couple had gone against Rhona’s wishes. After Rhona confronted them, Lucy went into labour and gave birth to a baby girl named Ivy.

But in a tragic turn of events, Lucy died during childbirth. Unable to stay away, Rhona made regular trips to the hospital to see her biological daughter as she watched Gus struggle with a newborn.
In upcoming episodes, Rhona will invite Gus and Ivy over for Christmas and tensions will start to simmer. Reflecting on filming the scenes, Mark Charnock exclusively told Daily Star and other press: “Marlon is quite precious about cooking Christmas dinner and Gus likes to cook.
“So there’s that which is quite fun to play. Also there’s a crying baby in the mix, there’s present. She has a present that the mum has wrapped so that’s very heartbreaking.”
He added: “There’s a lot going on in that house. We filmed it last week and it was great. Alan who plays Gus is amazing, we’re very lucky to have him. But it’s a mess, an emotional and moral mess.” Mark, who has played Marlon since 1996, touched upon the couple’s decision to keep their situation a secret from their friends in the village at the beginning.
The 55-year-old explained: “They keep it secret because they don’t know where this will go. Rhona’s really paranoid about people being nosey, defensive and people not understanding as you’d expect.
“And Marlon is more like, ‘I don’t think we should say anything about this until we know where the hell it’s going to go’ so they’re quite protective of it.” The complex storyline is likely to have an impact on a number of characters as the residents will be forced to choose sides.
The soap star said: “It’s quite contained for now. I think going further down the line it’s going to impact everybody that’s got any kind of relationship to them because I think people will start to take sides as it goes along.
