Game of Thrones star in court for child sex offences as he’s banned from social media

Game of Thrones star Joseph Gatt has appeared in court in connection with child sex offences.

Gatt, 51, played the role of Thenn Warg on the hit HBO show. But he arrived at a court in Los Angeles on Monday (October 2) together with his girlfriend Mercy Malik as he aimed to defend himself against the allegations.

Arriving to court wearing a black shirt and brown trousers, Joseph was recognisable by his well-known for his bald look as headed towards the court. He appeared calm and collected as he made his way to the area into the California courtroom.

Joseph is charged with a felony for “contact with a minor for a sexual offense” in the Californian hotspot in April of 2022. After the preliminary hearing, Gatt was bailed and currently remains free.

The Lucky Man star was arrested in April last year and his home was searched by officers working for the Juvenile Division and Internet Crimes Against Children (ICAC) Task Force. Provided with a search warrant, Gatt was booked for his offence, alongside a second felony for the possession of an assault weapon.

At the court hearing, Judge Enrique Monguia – who is presiding over the case – adjourned the case until December 4. His reasoning for this was due to the prosecution team stating that an “additional discovery is needed” in order for the case to progress.

Gatt pleaded not guilty to both the charges made against him in the following court dates. Since being bailed, he has been restricted from certain aspects of his life including using social media for anything other than work.

He has also been told he is not allowed to spend any time alone with a minor unless it is supervised, as well as owning pornography. A week after the arrest, Joseph took to Twitter to deny the allegations made against him.

At the time, Joseph wrote: “I obviously want to address the absolutely horrifying and completely untrue allegations recently levelled against me. They are 100% categorically wrong and reckless.

“I have confirmed errors and misleading information in today’s press release. I am fully cooperating with police and LAPD to get to the bottom of this,” he continued. “I look forward to clearing my good name. Thank you to all my friends and supporters who know that this is untrue and understand for legal reasons I cannot comment further on social media”.
