Grammy winner Lizzo admits she 'ditched school' because of Beyoncé during speech

Grammy Award winner Lizzo admitted that she previously ditched school for Beyoncé during her acceptance speech.

Lizzo took to the stage to take her award and thanked her loved ones and family before she turned to the audience to give her speech.

Part way through, the singer addressed Beyoncé and made a cheeky confession.

She said: “Beyoncé. In the fifth grade I skipped school to see you perform! My sister, she got me out of school. It was literature, I’m good. Where you at Beyoncé? You changed my life. When you sang that gospel medley, you made me feel.”

Lizzo continued: “I was like: ‘I want to make people feel this way with my music!’ So, thank you so much. You clearly are the artist of our lives. I love you, god bless y’all!”

The audience laughed, applauded and agreed with Lizzo’s heartwarming speech as she spoke with a beaming smile across her face.

Before she spoke to Beyoncé, Lizzo had joked that she and Adele were “just enjoying themselves” and “rooting for their friends” before they were both announced as Grammy Award winners.

She admitted that the win was “so unexpected” and had to take a moment to gain her composure before she continued with the speech.

The star dedicated her award to the late Prince and paid tribute to the musical icon.

She revealed that she related to the positivity of his music after he died and vowed to spend her life creating happiness just like he did.

Lizzo said that “positive music wasn’t mainstream” when she started out and claimed that she “felt like an outsider looking in,” but wanted to “make a change”.

The singer then addressed the audience and told her fans to “stay true to themselves” and thanked them for “believing in her”.

Lizzo took home the Grammy award for Record of the Year for her single It’s About Damn Time.

The singer stunned in a form-fitting silver mini dress covered in ruffles that showed off her curvaceous figure as she stood on stage.

She styled her hair in a short bob with tight ringlet curls.
