Home Alone kids now – trust fund feud, drug scandal and major career swap

It’s that time of year when we are all watching Christmas films and snuggling up underneath a blanket.

And of course one of the best is Home Alone. Released 31 years ago, it became a box office hit, making a huge $476.7million (£351m) and spawning the successful sequel Home Alone 2: Lost in New York with the same cast and stars, including Tim Curry.

In an interview with Vanity Fair, star Macauley Culkin said that he can’t watch the film in the same way as other people, as he constantly starts remembering behind-the-scenes moments. He said: “I’m remembering that day on set, like, how I was hiding my Pepsi behind the couch. I can’t watch it the same way other people can.”

Home Alone was the film that made a star of Macaulay Culkin as the confident Kevin, who saves his home from the “Wet Bandits” Harry and Marv. With the success of Home Alone 2 and films including My Girl, Macaulay featured in more early nineties flicks including Richie Rich and Getting Even With Dad, before taking a hiatus from film roles until 2008 as an adult in Saved!.

In the past he has claimed his father, Kit Culkin, was cruel and violent in his childhood. He said he felt his father was jealous, because “everything [Kit] tried to do in his life, [Macauly] excelled at before [he] was 10 years old.”

He took his parents to court to block them from controlling his trust fund, which was reportedly worth between $15-20million. The media reported that Culkin had divorced or emancipated himself from his parents but he denied these claims.

Culkin would go on to have issues with drugs, and was briefly jailed but eventually received a one-year suspended sentence and ordered to pay fees. In more recent years, he’s seen a resurgence in his success thanks to American Horror Story.

He’s also a settled down, married man. The actor is married to actress Brenda Song and they have two children together.

Devin Ratray played the role of Kevin’s mean older brother Buzz McCallister in the festive favourite. He went on to land a few minor roles in Little Monsters, Dennis the Menace and The Prince and Me in the mid-90s.

But things took a turn for the worst for the actor later in the year when he turned himself in to police in Oklahoma City after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend during a row in 2021. The 44-year-old was charged with domestic assault and battery by strangulation and several other offences.

A warrant was issued for the former child star’s arrest after allegedly attacking the woman who weeks later. He was later released on a £16,000 bond.

Angela played Linnie, another one of Kevin’s five siblings. She’s the one who told Kevin he’s “what the French call les incompétents.” Angela was just 13 years old when she played Linnie, and was one of only three main cast members who didn’t return for Home Alone 2: Lost In New York, which came out two years later.

She went on to star in Jerry Maguire, Spanglish and hit shows such as Grey’s Anatomy and CSI. One of her last acting roles was black comedy horror mockumentary Behind the Mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon in 2006.

Since then, Angela went on to marry fellow actor Russell Soder and the couple share one child together, with the actress regularly sharing snaps of their family time.

In 2002, she married her husband Chris Saba and in 2004, Wolf and her husband Chris started a wrestling club called Rocky Mountain Wrestling Club which is located in Colorado Springs, Colorado
