Huw Edwards’ replacement for hosting BBC News at 10 has been “confirmed” as Clive Myrie.
The presenter, 62, was suspended from the broadcaster back in July after he was named at the centre of the sex picture scandal. Edwards was accused of paying a teenager thousands of pounds for sexually explicit photos, while the young person’s mother published claims that the payments helped fund her child’s crack cocaine habit.

Despite police finding no evidence of criminal wrongdoing by the presenter, he is not expected to return to hosting BBC News at 10. At the time of his suspension, 59-year-old Myrie and Sophie Raworth took over Huw’s regular slot, but it was Clive who was pitched as the frontrunner to replace Edwards.
The newsreader had a leading role in a three-minute video prepared by BBC News’ chief executive Deborah Turness last month, which has been billed as a “mission statement”. The clip reportedly features a number of presenters discussing clarity, courage, fairness, respect and transparency – the “values” that Turness wants the BBC to focus on. The Times claimed that Myrie’s role was the most prominent as he delivered Turness’s key line, “We will never forget that your trust is earned”.
Insiders have declared that the Myrie, who also hosts quiz show Mastermind, is the most likely person to replace Edwards as the bulletins anchorman, with staff who logged into the all-hands digital meeting on September 12 claiming Myrie’s standing within the BBC is on the rise. Edwards has worked on some of the biggest news stories in his long career, earning plaudits for his coverage Queen Elizabeth II’s death in 2022.

He was the BBC’s highest paid journalist, earning between £435,000 and £440,000 a year. Other potential candidates who could replace him include Raworth, Fiona Bruce, Laura Kuenssberg, Nick Robinson and others. However, it appears Myrie’s role is all but confirmed, with a rival presenter saying: “In a sense it’s already out there, isn’t it? Clive Myrie’s presenting the News at Ten.”
