Coronation Street star Liam McCheyne has revealed that he managed to land his role on the soap by a “total fluke”.
Liam, who plays the role of young Dylan Wilson on the ITV soap titan, first joined the show all the way back in 2011. At first, he played the role together with his twin brother Connor, but since has taken on the character entirely, appearing on and off since then.
Dylan is now set to be appearing on the show for a while, as he is being dragged into a horrific bullying storyline. Being taken under the wing of new bully character Mason Radcliffe, played by Luca Toolan, Dylan is set to fall down the rabbit hole, leaving a destructive path in his wake at school.

But despite his character’s struggles to fit in with the crowd, Liam admitted that coming back to the show felt so easy to him. “It was a long wait, but it was worth the wait. It’s been great to be back,” he said.
The young starlet then explained how he was able to bag the role on the show, describing the process as a “total fluke”. He confessed that someone he lived next to had connections to the show and helped him and his brother get a foot in the door.
“My neighbour across the road was on work experience for a local agency and she asked my mum if we would want to go and do an audition for her,” he explained. “She said even if we didn’t get it, it would help her with her work experience.”
Liam admitted that everyone thought they would be too shy to go through with it. But once the cameras started rolling at the audition, McCheney said that they “were like totally different children”, showing off a new-found confidence.
Brother Connor decided to hang up his acting skills, but Liam has since figured out acting was his secret calling. He decided that he wanted to be an actor “forever” after discovering his passion two years ago and has since featured in a host of other TV shows including The Bay and Last Tango in Halifax.
The actor said that now that he is a regular fixture on the cobbles, he is loving every bit of it. When asked what it is like being back on the show, he said the Corrie cast “is like a family and I’m grateful to be a part of it”.
Viewers have been watching as Dylan falls under the control of bully Mason Radcliffe as he continues to terrorise Ruby Dobbs. Since his introduction to the soap last month, Mason has ramped up the torment for Ruby, roping Dylan in to help with his horrific antics.
Liam described his character’s relationship with Mason, saying that he thinks Dylan is “naive and doesn’t know what he’s getting into”. He added: “Mason isn’t a true friend to Dylan and Dylan is easily influenced”, which makes it worse for his.
As Dylan continues to slip further into into his harrowing plotline, actor Liam said that if he knew Dylan, he would tell him: “Listen to friends and family because they’re only looking out for your best interests.” He offered simialr advice to anyone who would be going through a similar situation.
