Coronation Street fans believe that Peter Barlow will return to the soap after his final scenes aired on Boxing Day (December 26).
Heartbreaking scenes saw the tearful taxi driver, played by actor Chris Gascoyne, bid his fellow residents farewell and leave Weatherfield on the tram. Soon enough, he’ll be sailing around the world with his old pal.
His long-term partner Carla was heartbroken to see him leave, but she was the one who encouraged him to find his true happiness away from Weatherfield. The pair shared an emotional embrace and a kiss before he set off on his adventure.

But it seems fans are confident they’ll see him return to the soap – rejecting the idea that he is gone for good. “Peter will come back in couple years married to someone else,” said one fan on X, formerly Twitter.
“Goodbye Peter. I’m sure he’ll be back in the future. #Corrie,” said another. A second penned: “Bet Peter is back in 10 years,” as a third added: “he’ll be back in a few years, i wouldn’t worry.”
And another reckoned Peter could ditch Carla and return with another lady. “Peter will be back in 10 years with a bottle of vodka in one hand and a girl 20 years younger than him in the other.”
Peter struggled to cope after killing serial killer Stephen Reid. Peter had been desperate to escape from the memories of what happened and confessed to feeling “empty inside.” Fans were also in tears watching the final scenes as they said goodbye to “one of the greats”.
“I will miss you so much Peter Barlow #corrie,” whilst a second added: “Goodbye Peter Barlow it’s been great #Corrie.” A third shared: “Little did we know when we met Chris in April that it’d be his final year on the cobbles. And what a privilege it’s been to watch him all these years! A class act through and through, effortlessly delivering nothing less than perfection every time. One of #Corrie’s modern greats.”

Chris previously opened up about his final scenes, admitting he felt “moved” by the final scripts.
“When I read that last script, it was emotional, not because I was leaving, but I genuinely, genuinely felt moved by it,” he shared in a chat with the BBC ahead of his exit, “I think it’s as well-written script as you’re going to get at Coronation Street and I think most people will have had exactly the same thing in their life, so they’ll identify with it.
