ITV Corrie fans devastated as soap shares heartbreaking update on missing character

Coronation Street fans were left utterly devastated after it was confirmed that one beloved character won’t be returning to the soap this Christmas.

Over the past few weeks, money has quickly become a growing concern in the Bailey household after Ed’s gambling addiction resurfaced last month. Since then, the factory worker has been desperately trying to hide his addiction from his friends and family.

While the doting dad continues to struggle with his vices, viewers have been desperate to see his beloved wife Aggie return to our screens. But during Monday’s (November 27) visit to the ITV cobbles, Michael revealed that the matriarch won’t be returning any time soon.

The character was last seen in Weatherfield during the summer, but the character suspiciously disappeared from our screens just weeks later. Her unexplained absence has left many fans wondering if we’d ever see her again.

Tonight, Michael revealed that she wouldn’t be reuniting with the family for Christmas because she is currently looking after his Auntie. Michael was devastated by the upsetting news but viewers couldn’t help but wonder why a distracted Ed didn’t have much to say.

It was at this point that fans flooded to the social media site X – formerly known as Twitter to share their disappointment online. One user penned: “Aggie won’t even be back for Xmas now. Why’s she been out of it this long? #corrie.”

Another agreed: “So Aggie can’t spend Christmas with her family and tiny granddaughter who lives with her? As if! #corrie.” A third echoed: “Aggie come back you’re letting the family fall apart. Ed doesn’t know his arse from his elbow over ‘ere! #Corrie.”

A fourth echoed: “Aggie will come back to no home Ed will have lost the lot with his gambling addiction… [sad emoji] #Corrie.” Luckily another Bailey relative has stepped in to take her spot when Ed’s father Ram John Holder paid them a surprise visit.

But his arrival caused more heartache than ever when he asked why the Bailey family had moved to Weatherfield. It soon became apparent that Sarge believed they moved up north because of Ed’s business plan falling through.

It was at this point that Dee-Dee (Channique Sterling-Brown) revealed the truth to Sarge, confirmed that Ed previously had a gambling addiction. She explained that his addiction was the reason behind the family losing everything.

Sarge, who is completely set in his ways, struggled to sympathise with his son and his addiction. But Dee-Dee was quick to jump to her father’s defence. She pointed out that the family immediately supported Ed, who she sees as an incredibly strong man.

As the pressure for Ed to pay back a handyman called Tony continues to build, the doting dad made the decision to go to a Gamblers Anonymous meeting at the end of the episode. He explained that he had relapsed and was completely terrified of the future, believing his family may not support him this time around.

Fans will have to stay tuned to see if he will open up to any of his loved ones about the extent of his addiction.
