Jamie Lynn Spears caught national attention when she fell pregnant with her daughter Maddie aged just 15.
The Zoey 101 star, who is now taking part in ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! found out she was expecting a baby in a gas station bathroom back in 2008, when she was still a teenage. After that, she left the Nickelodeon show and disappeared from the public eye for years.
Sister to Britney Spears, Jamie Lynn’s parents begged her to have an abortion. But she refused, even when trolls called her the “worst human alive”. She was even told that “every young girl” who ever watched her on TV would be “ruined” by the revelation.

Now Jamie Lynn has settled down with her husband Jamie Watson, who she married in 2014, after splitting from her first baby daddy Casey Aldridge. The pair welcomed another daughter together, Ivey.
Daily Star takes a peek at what teen pregnancy was really like for Jamie Lynn.
Gas station revelation
Jamie Lynn said her world “came crashing down” when she first discovered she was pregnant in a gas station bathroom. She took the pregnancy test surrounded by pals in a BP toilet close to her family home in Louisiana.
A friend initially noticed she was being sick a lot, and Jamie Lynn revealed on her show When the Lights Go Out: “I don’t know how you can say this without feeling a little tacky. I kept actually throwing up.
“We decided to get our friend to go and buy a pregnancy test. We stopped to get gas and she was like ‘Just go and take the test real quick.’ We didn’t want to do it at home, so I went in the BP and I took a pregnancy test.
“I sat on the thing and we were sat there looking and my friend looks down and she freaks out and I was like ‘What? What? What?’ and the test was positive and I was pregnant. So I got the news in the ladies room at the BP, that about sums it all up.”
Cabin in the woods
Jamie Lynn told her parents, Lynn and Jamie Spears, that she was pregnant by leaving them a note while she hid in another room. She revealed: “She came in and said ‘Is this a joke?’ I don’t think she really comprehended and she called my daddy.”
Things were “not great” for a while in the household, with Jamie Lynn confessing she felt “extremely guilty”. She went on: “I knew I had a lot of young girls who looked up to me and I felt that responsibility but at the end of the day I knew I would have to make a decision as a young girl myself, to do something that I could sleep with at night.
“I knew deep down that I was going to have my little girl, even if I had to raise her on my own, which is what I did.”
Forced to hide in a house surrounded by security guards for three weeks, Jamie Lynn bought some land and built a gate around it. She later revealed to press that she was moved to a remote cabin and cut off from the outside world before she gave birth.
She told ABC News in 2022: “I was a kid and maybe this is in my best interests and maybe this is what I’m supposed to do because of course I don’t want to be hounded by the paparazzi or tabloids or allow them to control my narrative. But it felt like I was really being alienated.”
Even Britney was kept in the dark about her sister’s pregnancy, and found out via the news in OK! Magazine. Jamie Lynn’s smartphone was taken away from her and she even threatened emancipation from her parents because they kept her “locked away like a princess”.
She wrote in her memoir: “My family denied my attempts to be independent and left me with no other choice than to threaten to file for emancipation with the courts.”
‘Worst human in the world’
Jamie Lynn faced criticism from the press and from vile trolls after the news of her pregnancy broke. She revealed on the Call Her Daddy podcast: “The whole world came down and told me I was the worst human alive for doing so and that every young girl who ever watched my show was going to be ruined because of me and my personal decision.”
Her family even wanted her to get an abortion when she was 16, revealing during her time in the ITV jungle: “After I finished Zoey, I had the love of my life, what I thought, I decided to keep the baby. I was 16. The whole world was like, ‘You’re a s**t, you’re horrible, your life is over… Because I got pregnant young and I was on a kids’ show.”
Perfect labour
Thankfully, the actual giving birth part turned out to be a lot more straightforward than the rest of Jamie Lynn’s pregnancy. She told OK! in 2008: “I was right on schedule.
“They’d told me it would be an eight- to 12-hour labor, and I was ready to have the baby in three to four hours. I had a perfect pregnancy and a perfect delivery. There was no C-section. There were no emergencies. She was perfectly healthy. I had a normal, natural birth. I was very blessed.”
She added: “She just looked at me, and she didn’t really cry at first. I was scared, and then she started screaming. It is the best feeling in the whole world.”

Now Jamie Lynn’s daughter Maddie Briann Aldridge is 15 years old, while her second daughter Ivey Joan is five. She prides herself on keeping her kids out of the spotlight.
Maddie’s life hasn’t always been easy, however, and she came close to death after a horrific ATV accident. She almost drowned after accidentally driving into the pond at her home in Louisiana, with the vehicle flipping over when it hit the water.
Horrific scenes saw Maddie airlifted to hospital in New Orleans, where she remained in a coma for two days. She was thankfully released from hospital later that month, with a police report confirming she had been “trapped” in the ATV.
Documents read: “The child was trapped and secured by the seatbelt and the ATV’s safety netting. Within two minutes, Acadian Ambulance Services arrived and assisted in freeing the child from the cold waters.” Her step-father Jamie Watson dove in to rescue her, though things looked “grim” initially.
