Lee Mack is after a role as Jack The Ripper as he wouldn’t have the pressure of impersonating the mystery serial killer.
The comic, 55, said he wanted to follow Steve Coogan by playing a psycho after the star played Jimmy Savile in BBC show The Reckoning. Lee told comedian Richard Herring on his podcast: “I’d like to play somebody that was pre-film, that there’s no photographs of, because then no one would know if the impression was any good.
“I mean, I could do Jack The Ripper because nobody knows what he sounds like. I wouldn’t want to do Jimmy Savile because you know what he sounds like, and it’d be a terrible impression.

“I’d be over the top. It’d be like, ‘Calm it down a bit mate. You don’t always have to wear the Jim’ll Fix It badge and the rings and say jingly jangly’.”

It comes after Steve admitted he refused to shoot one of Savile’s sickening crimes while filming The Reckoning. Steve, who is best known for his comedy character Alan Partridge, underwent a complete transformation to play the disgraced DJ and TV presenter.
However, he has revealed that there was a scene in the original script that he didn’t want to act out. “There was a certain shot they wanted to do that I didn’t want to do,” he said. “It was just a detail that I was uncomfortable with, so I had a conversation with the director and we came to an agreement on what was the most appropriate way to depict it.”

The harrowing scene is set in a mortuary at a Leeds hospital where Jimmy visited often. So much so, that he is said to have had his own bedroom there. Jimmy can be seen placing his hand under the sheet that’s covering a corpse of an elderly woman. Describing the scene as “really disturbing”, Steve said: “What can you say? It’s as disturbing as it looks.”
