Leonardo DiCaprio’s awkward Titanic blunder was included in iconic nude scene

One of Leonardo DiCaprio’s most famous scenes was actually unscripted, according to reports.

Back in 1997, Leonardo DiCaprio was catapulted into worldwide stardom after starring in James Cameron’s Titanic alongside Kate Winslet.

The Hollywood blockbuster follows the story of Rose, a wealthy young girl, who falls in love with Jack, a struggling artist, during their journey on the ill-fated Titanic ship.

In one of the steamy scenes, Rose strips off and asks Jack to sketch her after uttering the line: “Paint me like one of your French girls.”

Rose’s seductive line has to be one of the most famous from the film, but Leo’s follow-up is equally as iconic.

Jack told Rose: “Lie on that bed – uh, I mean couch,” but his mistake was never actually scripted at all.

In the original dialogue, DiCaprio was simply supposed to ask Winslet to “lie on the couch,” but during filming Leo messed up.

However, director James Cameron was charmed by the youngster’s slip up and decided to keep it in the final cut.

Elsewhere in the scene, there’s another behind the scenes secret that many Titanic fans may not be aware of.

When Jack draws Rose, who is posed on the couch wearing nothing but the iconic Heart of the Ocean pendant, it’s not Leonardo behind the notepad.

The actor drawing Winslet is actually Cameron himself.

Winslet spoke to Stephen Colbert about the scene and said: “No, Jim Cameron actually drew that. Maybe no-one even knows that until this moment right now!”

She confirmed: “Jim Cameron drew that and he did actually sketch me.”

However, Kate was wearing a bathing suit the whole time and wasn’t naked at all.

Cameron apparently decided to take over the role of Jack in that scene as he wanted everything to be perfect.

The picture Cameron drew reportedly sold for a whopping $16,000 (£12,000) and the buyers identity has never been made public.

Winslet also said that she is “haunted” by the moment and has been previously asked to sign pictures of herself posing for Jack’s painting, which she refuses as it “feels very uncomfortable”.
