One family member claims Madonna believes she is “invincible” and has been pushing herself extremely hard to prepare for her upcoming tour.

The 64-year-old was reportedly intubated for at least one night before her tube was removed, and she is now said to be out of the intensive care unit and “alert”.

Her manager Guy Oseary confirmed that Madonna “developed a serious bacterial infection which led to a several day stay in the ICU.

“Her health is improving, however she is still under medical care. A full recovery is expected.”

“We will share more details with you as soon as we have them, including a new start date for the tour and for rescheduled shows.”

The first gig was expected to kick off on July 15 at Vancouver’s Rogers Arena.

Madonna was initially found “unresponsive” before being taken to hospital.

A source said: “For the past couple of days, no one really knew which direction this was going to turn, and her family was preparing for the worst.

“That is why it was kept a secret since Saturday. Everyone believed that we may lose her, and that has been the reality of the situation.”

Her daughter Lourdes Leon was thought to be by her side throughout the ordeal.
