One star of upcoming Netflix film May December saw actor Charles Melton take one for the team in the form of a huge prosthetic penis.
The upcoming movie – which has already dropped on Netflix in the US – stars Julianne Moore and Natalie Portman. It follows a couple whose tabloid romance swept the nation decades ago, when Joe (Charles Melton) was 13 and Gracie (Julianne Moore) was in her 30s.
Famous actress Elizabeth, played by Portman, pops round to research the couple for a biopic on their lives – only to realise that it’s not all perfect in suburbia. The uncomfortable hard facts of the scandal once again rise to the surface – but will it sour their marriage for good?

Charles bore the brunt of it when it came to wearing a heavy prosthetic for sex scenes, which took an epic “nine hours” to film. In one scene, the fake member is in full view of the camera, with Charles confessing it was rather “annoying”.

He explained: “There were a few conversations about the prosthetic, regarding what was realistic and what wasn’t. And I had to wear that prosthetic for nine hours that day. I didn’t have anything to drink that morning or the night before. That was an annoying process but still very respectful.”
The Riverdale star added: “The whole thing. Natalie, [director Todd Haynes], and I met to discuss the scene, walking through it and ensuring everybody was comfortable.”
Charles isn’t the only A-lister to have donned a fake schlong on set. Theo James sent fans wild in his naked scene for The White Lotus, but later confessed that he didn’t actually reveal all despite, well, revealing most.

Referring to it as the “pee-pee scene”, the Hollywood hunk said: “The truth of it was, you go into these things and you have a conversation with the director and the producers, and they go, ‘OK, for this, we’re going to use a prosthetic, we’re gonna use something.’ It’s a pee-pee prosthetic.”
Theo said he didn’t take his fake penis home with him, but described it as resembling a “hammer” waiting for him to slip into it. Imagine his surprise when the prop department told him the size was “average”!

Even Sex/Life star Adam Demos has admitting to using a faux phallus for the Netflix show. He told Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph: “Everyone now knows it’s a prosthetic. I think that was part of the intrigue.
“When you’re shooting these things you don’t think they’re going to be a viral moment. I don’t even think TikTok was around or that popular.” He joked: “It was all this good humoured speculation and you just have to have a laugh. My mates have ammunition on me forever with that scene.”
