Soap fans have been left stunned after discovering Mel B’s secret roles on two iconic ITV programmes.
The Leeds lass, 48, found fame as a member of the chart-topping band Spice Girls in the ‘90s. Along with Geri Horner, Emma Bunton, Mel C and Victoria Beckham, the ladies went on to become pop culture icons.
Famous for hits like Wannabe, Say You’ll Be There and Spice Up Your Life, the girls broke records worldwide. The band ended up splitting in 2000, before reuniting in 2012 and again in 2018.

But it turns out that before she became a global superstar, Mel B actually had a forgotten soap career in the UK. And she even had screens with a certain soap legend.
A year before she joined the Spice Girls, in 1994, Mel appeared on Emmerdale as an extra. She also made two more appearances in the Yorkshire Dales before she hit the big time as a singing sensation.
But it wasn’t just ITV Emmerdale that Mel B starred in. Back in 1993, she set foot on the iconic cobbles in Coronation Street.
Mel played checkout worker Amy, who worked at Bettabuy and dated Andy McDonald. During her stint, Mel shared scenes with Corrie icons including Curly Watts (Kevin Kennedy), Vera Duckworth (Liz Dawn) and Maureen Holdsworth (Sherrie Hewson) as well.
The character ended up leaving Weatherfield for Trinidad, with Mel only appearing in one episode. She took over the role after the previous actress became unwell.
Back in 2019, Coronation Street bosses shared a throwback clip of Mel B on the show. Taking to X, then known as Twitter, the soap uploaded a video that showed Mel in a meeting at the supermarket where her character worked.
The post is captioned “Spice Up Your life – here’s a youthful Mel B’s brief appearance on Coronation Street in 1993 working at Freshco. ‘Zig-a-zig-ah’ @OfficialMelB #Corrie #FlashbackFriday #SpiceGirls #ScarySpice #MelB #MelanieBrown.”

And it’s fair to say fans of the two soaps were left stunned at Mel’s appearance on the shows. One person said on X: “Wow, I didn’t realise that was Mel, @OfficialMelB???!!! What is it they say???!!! Ya learn something new every day!!!.”
Someone else chimed in and added: “WTF.” A third equally as floored fan quipped: “I had no idea Mel B was in Corrie.”
