Strictly’s Zara McDermott told boyfriend Sam Thompson not to come to live shows

Strictly Come Dancing contestant Zara McDermott has banned her boyfriend Sam Thompson from attending the BBC programme’s live shows – according to the man himself.

Zara, who rose to fame on the fourth series of Love Island, is partnered with profressional dancer, Graziano Di Parma in this year’s contest. Should she avoid being booted from the show tonight (October 15), meanwhile, former Made In Chelsea star Sam won’t be egging her on any time soon.

Sam, 31, said on Hits UK with Sam Thompson radio show: “If you’re wondering why you haven’t seen me in the Strictly audience I’ve been told to stay at home! Zara and I have agreed that I can do more damage from the sofa – by which I mean garner more votes!”

He continued: “I can go on Instagram stories and really be like ‘Vote for Zara!’ because the actual studio audience aren’t allowed to bring their phones into the studio. You can’t do anything in the studio with your phone, so we thought we’d go for a multi-pronged attack with me on the sofa at home!”

Saturday night’s instalment saw Zara and Graziano perform a Vienese Waltz to Dusty Springfield’s You Don’t Have To Say You Love Me. The pair failed to impress, however, scoring 28 to chart 10th out of 13 on the week four leaderboard.

TV personality Sam, meanwhile, discussed his absence from the studio further, adding: “And I’m going to be honest it’s not the worst thing in the world because it’s quite a long show – it’s a good three hours! I took Pete [Wicks] my best mate to the first show and after three dances he turned round and went ‘It’s a long one this isn’t’ it?’ So, I’m going to town on stories this weekend and I’m going to make sure my girlfriend sails through to another week.”

Zara McDermott and Sam Thompson have been dating since early 2019

Earlier this weekend Zara revealed how Strictly goes to extreme lengths to try and prevent its stars from suffering wardrobe malfunctions. Thanking the wardrobe department for doing whatever it takes to make sure nothing is exposed in her skimpy outfits, she explained: “I was stitched into my outfit last weekend.

“They were doing it until about three seconds before I went out. They stitch you right in. When it comes to the outfits, if you feel like something is too much or too little then you just communicate that and they listen. The wardrobe team are fantastic.”

The documentary maker also recently opened up to Daily Star about her gruelling training schedule with Graziano. Blonde bombshell, Zara, said: “We did 11 hours last week, 8am-7pm and we didn’t really stop.

“Sam does his radio show every evening so when I come home from training, he’s at work so I rehearse on my own or use one of the cats.”

Strictly Come Dancing airs on Saturday and Sunday from 6.30pm or watch it on catch-up on BBC iPlayer.
