This Morning’s Gyles cheekily declares he’s ‘exhausted’ after night in bed with wife

This Morning favourite Gyles Brandreth made a subtly cheeky comment to hosts Holly Willoughby and Josie Gibson as he shared an update on his marriage.

Holly and Josie explained to Gyles how Josie had started the day very well after having a three-minute ice bath to kick off her morning. When Holly asked how Gyles was feeling, the response wasn’t exactly what she expected.

He said: “Well I am feeling spritely in a way, though exhausted because my marriage has sprung to life.” The shocked hosts stifled their laughter as Gyles explained what he meant.

The telly star told the hosts that while he’s been travelling around the country with his show, he and his wife stayed at a hotel that didn’t have a great bed. He said the mattress drooped and they fell into the centre.

Gyles added: “Me and my wife had the closest night we’ve had I’d say certainly in 40 years. We hugged each other all night. Otherwise we would have rolled off.

“So instead of complaining about it, we’re going on TripAdvisor and saying, ‘If you want to add a little zest to your marriage, go to this hotel where the mater is convex and you can huddle and cuddle in the middle.”

Later on in the show, Matthew Wright was talking about children on their phone at schools and a ban on mobiles. Poking fun at the segment Gyles pulled his phone out and started scrolling on it.

It didn’t go unnoticed by Holly, who cheekily asked him: “Thinking about the hotel again Gyles?” The pair have been married for 40 years and tied the knot with Michèle Brown years after meeting at Oxford.

The pair have since had three children together – and he previously admitted that bringing his first child into the world was quite an odd experience. He explained that his wife had to drive herself to the hospital in labour as he couldn’t drive.

He rang his dad and asked him to “rescue” him by coming to get the car and it quickly made him decide he needed to learn how to drive. The TV star confessed he’d booked lessons that very same day.

This Morning continues weekdays at 10am.
