TV legend Bobby Davro reveals ‘only thing getting him through’ after fiancée tragic death

Brave Bobby Davro is planning to perform through the pain of losing his fiancée to cancer, saying: “It’s the only thing that helps me forget the grief.”

The devastated TV legend, 64, says getting back on stage as a stand-up is the only way he can numb his heartache after Vicky Wright died of pancreatic cancer.

We can reveal he wants to attract a new generation of fans by making his gigs “edgier and more modern than ever” – and he hopes the shows will give the late love of his life a “laugh in heaven.”

He’ll be debuting the new material he’s been working on to distract himself from his personal torment during a two-night stint at this year’s Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

Bobby told the Daily Star Sunday: “I’m so heartbroken over Vicky going, but the show must go on as they say – especially for me.

“Work and performing stand-up are what’s going to save me. “Making people laugh gives me a break from the grief, and it’s worth doing because it’s the only thing really that lets me cope.

“I’m fit and I’m healthy, and there’s no point falling into a trap of sinking into grief – Vicky would want to see me get back out there, so these gigs are as much a tribute for her as well as for me.

Bobby is creating a new show for the Fringe called My Name Is Bobby Davro.

It’s understood the gigs, scheduled for early next month, will mix personal stories with new gags about the state of today’s world – but won’t dwell on Bobby’s grief.

A blurb for his show dates warns: “Not for the easily offended.”

It adds: “One of the biggest television comedy names of the 1980s and 1990s makes his Fringe debut.

“Expect lots of jokes and brilliant impressions from a master of his craft with the energy of a young thoroughbred!”

Bobby’s actress fiancée Vicky – daughter of England footballer Billy Wright – lost her cancer fight on 3 May aged 63.

Bobby is playing the Frankenstein Pub at 26 George IV Bridge, Edinburgh, at 9pm on 4 and 5 August. For tickets visit www.ticketsedfringe.com.
