Emmy award-winning actress Piper Laurie best known for her work on Twin Peaks and Carrie has passed away at the age of 91.
The American movie star who was born Rosetta Jacobs in 1932 received multiple accolades for her work throughout the years. She also accomplished the achievement of being nominated for three different Oscars in three different decades.
Piper’s manager, Marion Rosenberg confirmed the news of her death in a statement where she described her as “one of the most remarkable and versatile actresses of her day,” and a “brilliant and creative mind, and a glorious human being.” She also stated that Piper was a “beautiful human being and one of the great talents of our time.”

Piper passed away in Los Angeles on Saturday morning after having poor health for a number of years. The star became best known for her Oscar-nominated performance in the 1976 Stephen King horror novel adaptation Carrie where she played the mother of the main title character. Piper’s portrayal was recognised as a memorable one as she left a lasting impact on viewers across the globe.

A few years earlier, Piper was also nominated for a Best Actress Oscar for her role in The Hustler playing the role of Paul Newman’s girlfriend, Sarah Packard. The Hollywood legend also won a Golden Globe for her role in cult-classic Twin Peaks as Catherine Martell.
Piper’s incredible 118 credits span across 73 years, up to and including a voice role on the 2023 scripted podcast Around the Sun. The programme is an episodic drama “that explores human connections, made and missed, with an existential flare,” according to a logline description.

Since the news of her passing hit social media, fans have shared their condolences. Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one social media user said: “Sorry to see that Piper Laurie has died. I loved her in Tim and Twin Peaks. Such different roles, but she was so versatile.”
While another said: “Sad news. Piper Laurie has passed away at 91.I liked her in Twin Peaks. She played that character well. I also thought she was good as Carrie’s demented mother. RIP.”
Piper is survived by her daughter, Anne Grace, and her ex-husband Joseph Morgenstern, a writer and film critic. The former couple divorced in 1981.
