BBC Breakfast’s Ben Thompson has slammed Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s post Super Bowl smooch after the Kansas City Chiefs beat the San Francisco 49ers.
On Sunday night (February 11), fans all over the globe tuned in for one of the biggest matches of the season as the Chiefs made history after their epic win. The team made it into the history books for winning three Super Bowls in the last five seasons.
In the lead up to the big match, viewers were hopeful that the American Football hunk would bring the Shake It Off hitmaker. The pair were first romantically linked in September 2023 when the musician attended her first Chief’s fame.

And it’s fair to say fans were not disappointed as the new power couple were seen packing on the PDA as the team celebrated after the match. But not everyone was impressed with them locking lips for the cameras.
On Tuesday (February 13) visit to the BBC studios, the 42-year-old welcomed viewers back to the programme with his co-star Sally Nugent. The presenting duo discussed some of the biggest stories hitting the headlines.
This included the downfall of the British makeup store The Body Shop and the ongoing attacks in the Izrael-Gaza war. But arguably the biggest story of the day was the fan reaction over Taylor Swift and her new boyfriend locking lips at a star-studded after party.
Covering the historical event, BBC sports reporter John Watson showed a clip of the two love birds dancing together. He described the loved up snap as the “lasting image” of the sporting event.
He began: “The big talking point of course was was Taylor Swift gonna make it. The girlfriend of Travis Kelce there – she did.” It was at this point that he shared some people’s disappointment at her attendance overshadowing the game.
John pointed out: “I mean, it’s a team sport but there really was just the sort of focus on two people and that focus continues.” It was clear to see Ben shared that sentiment as he spoke out against their loved up display.
The broadcaster fumed: “It’s a lot of PDA. Seems like a lot of PDA!” But not everyone shared his thoughts as John defended: “People are loving it” while Sally agreed: “They are so bought into it. You don’t like it do you?”

Ben replied: “It’s all a bit much. It’s like, we get it, you’re together. It’s too much!” as Sally huffed: “You boys are not romantic at all.” Taylor had flown in from Tokyo, Japan, to attend the game after performing in the capital the night before.
But she didn’t have long to celebrate before she jetted back to the US to support her boyfriend for the big game. She invited many of her celebrity friends, including Blake Lively, to join her in her box during the match.
BBC Breakfast airs every day from 6am on BBC One or catch up on BBC iPlayer.
