BBC Breakfast’s Naga Munchetty was forced to apologise to her colleague Carol Kirkwood after she accidentally gave her the cold shoulder on Thursday’s show.
The telly host was left red-faced when she and co-presenter Charlie Stayt got so wrapped up chatting with Strictly judge Craig Revel Horwood that they completely missed Carol finishing her weather report. “Or being in charge,” Naga was heard muttering off-screen, before realising her blunder and quickly adding: “Sorry, Carol. Good morning, thank you.”
Charlie tried to smooth things over, saying: “We were distracted by our guest,” while Naga chimed in: “Yeah, we were, we have got Craig Revel Horwood here, Carol, so you want to say hello?”
But it seemed Carol didn’t quite catch the apology as Naga turned to Craig and cheekily asked: “Did you upset her?”
Then, shifting the focus back to the dance floor drama, Naga quizzed: “Let’s talk about what’s going on at Strictly, shall we?” as reported by the Express.
Craig, caught in the crossfire of the conversation, admitted: “That was a shock for me.”
Intrigued, Naga probed further: “What was the shock? ” prompting Craig to reveal: “Well, just finding out what was happening.”
He went on to express his shock, stating: “The allegations… I was completely gobsmacked by the whole thing, and of course, I found out with the press because of course, the judges are all kept very separate from all the contestants and all the pros and the only time we ever see each other is when we’re in passing going to the studio.”
Craig concluded, revealing the separation between judges and contestants: “So you don’t really get an opportunity to know what happens in the rehearsal room and that’s not part of our job.”
“So have you ever thought about just kind of how you train? I mean, you obviously dance and just that relationship?” Naga probed further.
“Yeah, I know how I was trained and it was tough,” the Strictly judge admitted. “And I remember that I had a Russian ballet teacher who used to have a cane, and she would whack us with it.”
He added: “I mean, obviously that sort of teaching would not be acceptable today. You know, things have evolved and progressed significantly in the 40 years since I trained.”
BBC Breakfast airs daily at 6am on BBC One.
