Benidorm creator confirms future of beloved ITV show as fans beg for major comeback

Benidorm creator Derren Litter has revealed has finally revealed the future of the beloved ITV show.

The hit television series aired between 2007 and 2018 which followed a selection of British tourists as they holidayed at the Spanish resort. The producer wrote and starred in the comedy show as well as Sherire Hewson, Steve Pemberton and Siobhan Finneran.

He explained: “I’m gonna answer it honestly because I always sort of dodge this question and say ‘Never say never’. But at the moment I would say – and it’s not the answer I think people want, which is a bit controversial – but I think the time has passed.

“Which is terrible to think because what a laugh for us to do. If we could all do like a one-off special, but they’re so expensive. It was a very expensive show Benidorm, it was very lavishly produced.

“But to go there just for a few weeks and do it, I think it’s not very cost effective and I don’t know if a full series would work now.” Despite the chances of a reunion being slim, he added that the cast and crew would love to return for a final special.

He went on: “I’m a bit of a pessimist so I would say the best thing to do would be a one-off special but I don’t think that’s possible. But I would love to do it and I know a lot of people, especially the actors who are still alive, I know they’d want to do it for sure.”

It comes after Josh Bolt revealed that he reunited with Steve Edge and Selina Griffiths. Josh, now 29, played the role of Rod Dawson, and was all smiles as he posed with his former co-stars.

Steve played Josh’s on-screen dad while Selina portrayed Pauline Maltby. Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – Josh penned: “Benidorm reunion by the sea not as warm but still as lovely.”

Their reunion further sparked rumours that the long-running show is returning with a new series. Last month Sherrie Hewson, who portrayed resort manager Joyce Temple-Savage, dropped a huge hint on the show’s future.
