Billie Eilish admits she’s having ‘hard time’ as she ‘never really grew up’

Billie Eilish is concerned that achieving fame as a teenager has hindered her personal growth.

The 22-year-old pop sensation confessed to experiencing a “difficult and strange” period in her 20s, attributing it to being catapulted into the spotlight at 14 with her debut hit single. Billie fears she’s been “frozen in time” and struggles with the pressures of fame.

In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, she revealed: “I’m finding I’m having kind of a hard, weird time being in my 20s. I just didn’t ever think about how I wouldn’t be the youngest person in the room forever.”

Billie believes fame has stunted her development, causing her to act immaturely at times. She observed that other pop stars also seem stuck in their teenage years, which she finds disheartening.

She continued: “I’m a different person – I just didn’t really grow. I didn’t really become an adult.”

Billie also discussed her complicated relationship with fame, confessing that she worries it has ruined her life. She recalled thinking: “I thought, this is just how my life is gonna be. I’ll never get to go outside again, and I’ll never feel like a person ever again.”

“Every room is gonna be, ‘It’s Billie Eilish! ‘ and that’s gonna make me eventually kill myself.”

This comes after Billie shared her feelings of intense isolation following her rise to fame, as she was abandoned by her friends. Chatting on the BBC podcast Miss Me?, she spilled the beans to Lily Allen and Miquita Oliver, confessing: “Well I lost all of my friends when I got famous.”

She continued: “I suddenly was famous and I couldn’t relate to anybody. It was tough. It was really hard.”

Billie then shared a poignant moment from her life, saying she clocked the massive shift in her social circle during her 20th birthday bash.

Wrapping up her candid chat, she remarked: “It was my 20th birthday and I remember looking around the room and it was only people that I employ. And all 15 years or more older than me.”
