Bridgerton star Nicola Coughlan wasn’t worried about lounging naked on-set with her Netflix co-star Luke Newton.
In fact, the actress confessed she felt “so comfortable” with Luke after filming romping scenes together that the pair simply didn’t bother to put on any clothes in between. The pair are friends in real life, and Nicola finally admitted to Teen Vogue that her nakedness on set is “true” and “really funny”.
She said: “It is a testament to the fact that we just got to a point where we were so comfortable together. We’d just finished the big sex scene, the most intense and involved one… and we just felt relieved.”

Logistics also played a part, given that the pair were wearing a tiny amount of “not even real clothes”, and getting up would have meant flashing the gathered crew.
She added to SiriusXM Hits 1: “We would be in-between scenes, and they were like, ‘Do you wanna get up and put your clothes on?’ We’re like, ‘We’ll just chill here.’ Like, in under the blankets. But then we have the advantage of knowing each other for years.”
She branded the sex scenes “really enjoyable”, explaining: “It’s a little bit like a stunt in which they’re like, ‘OK, we’re gonna do this, this, and this.’ But then they gave us freedom to like – we had a lot of say in how we did those scenes and what we wanted to do. That makes you feel quite empowered.”
Luke, meanwhile, told Teen Vogue: “Having shot love scenes with Nicola and with actors that I would perhaps meet on the same day, I think a lot of people think it’s better not to know the person. But I actually think having a really solid friendship with someone and trusting someone is a lot easier.
“We could support each other in whatever way we needed on set, and also just have a laugh about it. I’m really glad we got to share it together. It was like having a really close friend as you’re going through something that’s maybe quite daunting.”

But the romping between the pair was so rampant that the pair ended up breaking the furniture, with Luke giggling to 7News Australia: “It felt like a really safe space. There were moments where we could explore the scene and try it different ways and that ended up in a piece of furniture getting broken.
“We just laughed. And then, I think Nicola spoke, like in her Irish accent, and I thought, it would have been so special – I mean, maybe it will be in the final cut, us breaking into laughter – because I think that’s quite Colin and Pen, as well. So, it would be nice.”
