Brit soap actress Charmian Abrahams dies aged 96 after being hit by delivery van

British actress Charmian Abrahams has died at the age of 96 after a tragic incident which saw her hit by a delivery van.

The star appeared as Mavis Hooper in long-running soap Crossroads back in the 1980s. Throughout her career she also worked with greats such as Sir Ian McKellen.

Her death was confirmed by her family via a statement released by West Midlands Police. It said: “Charmian was a much-loved aunt and great-aunt and a dear friend to many.

“At 96 she was still full of life and energy and fiercely independent. In her working life she had enjoyed a long career as an actor on stage and screen, performing alongside many great theatrical figures.

“We are devastated that her life has been brought to an end so suddenly and tragically, but we will treasure our memories of her zest for life and the many good times we shared with her.”

Charmian enjoyed a television career which spanned five decades. She starred in Midlands-based soap Crossroads from 1981 to 1985.

She also had an impressive stage career, travelling throughout Europe, Australia and New Zealand. Other acting credits included Precious Bane, Musical Playhouse and BBC Sunday-Night Theatre.

According to West Midlands Police, the collision is being investigating by the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit. The incident happened on Lordswood Road in Harborne at approximately 11.40am.

Witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage are urged to come forward by the investigators.
