Britain’s Got Talent has been slapped with Ofcom complaints over a “vile” act.
The ITV talent show, hosted by Ant McPartlin and Dec Donnelly, returned this weekend with a fresh batch of hopefuls hoping to land a spot in the grand finale. This year, a record number of Golden Buzzers have been handed out, sending several acts straight to the semi-finals.
However, one act didn’t sit well with the audience at home, leading to a flurry of Ofcom complaints. The broadcasting watchdog received 54 complaints about the first episode on Saturday (April 21).

The complaints were centred around contestant Kimberly Winter’s burping routine, which left viewers feeling nauseous. The act, who flew in from America to “sing” for Simon, was so shocking it caused judge Alesha Dixon to walk off.
Simon Cowell commented: “We weren’t expecting that, did you really fly in from America to burp at me? Really? It was so stupid, it was brilliant, really, that’s a compliment.”, reports the Mirror.
Judges Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli both hit their red buzzers, but Amanda Holden decided to join in on the act and burped her response. A horrified Alesha exclaimed: “I’m out of here, I’m out of here! ” while Bruno added: “I’m bitterly disappointed, no, no, no! “.
Bruno eventually joined Amanda Holden and Simon Cowell in saying yes to Kimberly Winter, leaving Alesha Dixon as the lone ‘no’. But with three yeses, Kimberly sailed through to the next round.
BGT viewers were left gobsmacked by the act, and many were left sickened by all of the burping. One fan tweeted: “Im sorry but I do not find burping or farting funny at all. Just vile to me. [sic]” Another wrote: “Please tell me why someone was burping on stage?”.
A third complained: “Was quite enjoying #BGT then all the burping happened no need to see that. Vile”.
Saturday’s BGT episode saw a Golden Buzzer moment for West End star Sydnie Christmas and the Ssaulabi Performance Troupe from South Korea, showcasing their martial arts skills. The weekend also featured a stunning performance by singer Innocent Masuku, and an eight year old boy battling a brain tumour touched hearts alongside a choir with their rendition of ‘A Million Dreams’.
