Britain’s Got Talent star Allan Finnegan has revealed he’s been diagnosed with untreatable cancer and given just 12 months to live.
The Baptist Minister wowed the judges with his comedy routine in 2020 and made it to the semi-finals of the ITV competition. Two years later, Allan sought medical advice after having issues with his left eye.
The comedian was shocked when doctors revealed he had tumours in both eyes. One of these was identified as ocular melanoma, a rare cancer affecting around 850 people in the UK each year, according to Macmillan Cancer Support.

Despite treatment, the dad-of-two was later told the cancer had spread and was now incurable. Speaking to the Liverpool Echo, he said: “I was treated just after Christmas that year.
“It went well but the biopsy looked at my genes – if you’ve got a certain type of gene, there’s quite a high chance of cancer returning, and when it does, it usually is in the liver. In December last year, something showed up.
“I had to go back. It confirmed it had spread. I went to a consultant just after Christmas. He confirmed it was untreatable.” Allan has since been given a life expectancy of 12 months.”
The comedian shared the emotional moment he told his family about his diagnosis, saying: “Watching my wife and kids cry, seeing other people cry, that makes me more emotional.” Despite the tough news, he managed to keep his sense of humour, joking: “When I think about it, I realise I need to put more things in place, like decorating the hall.”
He’s now trying to raise money for a life-saving treatment not available on the NHS. On his GoFundMe page, he explains: “I was diagnosed with ocular melanoma 2 years ago and was treated successfully, but unfortunately it has now metastasised into my liver and is incurable. I’ve been given 12 months but could extend this by receiving Chemosaturation Therapy, directly to the liver.”
This new treatment method, according to the NHS, can help treat cancers in the liver. Allan hopes it will give him more time with his loved ones, including his three-month-old grandson Albie.
But at £50,000 per dose, and needing three doses, Allan is relying on donations. So far, over £35,000 has been donated. He said: “After running out of options, I started a GoFundMe. I didn’t expect to get much but it did take off.”
He added to the publication: “It raised £25,000 on the first day. It massively surprised me. “It’s such a big amount. It’s January, there’s a cost of living crisis, so it’s quite humbling. It’s quite emotional to see it going up so quickly. I know some of the people who have given me £5 or £10. It’s quite humbling to be on the receiving end.”
