It was recently revealed that a new movie biopic on Britney Spears is being made after Universal acquired the rights to her memoir The Woman in Me.
It will be directed by Jon M Chu, who is known for directing Crazy Rich Asians, In The Heights and the upcoming Wicked movies.
The superstar confirmed the exciting news herself as she penned on X, formerly known as Twitter: “Excited to share with my fans that I’ve been working on a secret project with #MarcPlatt.
“He’s always made my favourite movies… stay tuned,” she teased with a rosi emoji and a filming camera emoji.
Since the announcement, fans have been sharing their theories on who should play the pop princess and have taken to Reddit to share their views.
One fan suggested woman of the hour, Sabrina Carpenter as they penned: “I don’t think there’s anyone better than Sabrina Carpenter to play Britney.”
Somebody responded: “She doesn’t look like her, I feel like that is important but I agree she has the performance experience and stage presence.”
To which the original fan said: “She’s one of the better actors Disney has put out, in my opinion. She’s got the thousand-watt smile, the insane stage presence, the not-so innocent appeal. Plus she can sing damn well. Feels like no-brainer to me.”
Another fan put Addison Rae’s name forward as they expressed: “Addison Rae needs to play her,” to which somebody responded: “I hate that this is maybe the only person I could agree with in a small way but I don’t immediately hate the idea. She would capture her looks and charm quite well.”
However, a few other Reddit users suggested Stranger Things actress Millie Bobby Brown would play Britney.
One commented: “So… It’s gonna be Millie Bobby Brown isn’t it? I remember that being floated as a hypo[thetical] casting,” while another added: “What about Millie Bobby Brown.”
Other names fans put in the mix were actress Sydney Sweeney as well as singer Tate McRae.
Some fans argued that it should be an unknown actress who takes on the once-in-a-lifetime role as somebody quipped: “We need the nationwide casting call. Give us an unknown talent!”
Another Reddit user agreed: “I hope they go with someone relatively unknown or just waiting for their big break. Could be a career launching role if they do it right, but like you said these are some big shoes to fill!”
