Camo and Krooked reveal wildest-ever fan encounter ahead of huge drum and bass show

Camo and Krooked are one of the hottest drum and bass duos in Europe and have an ever-growing crazy fan base.

The Austrian duo otherwise known as Reinhard Rietsch and Markus Wagner have cemented themselves as key players in the scene after first coming together as a pairing in 2007.

Known for their catchy tracks such as Sientelo, Watch It Burn and No Tomorrow, they have consistently blessed fans with new screw face tracks which are frequently played at raves across the globe.

After becoming increasingly popular, they often sell out shows, which can leave some fans disappointed and desperate to get in. When asked about their wildest-ever fan, Krooked shared: “We once played in somewhere in Canada, and in the daytime it was a pizzeria cafe, and in the night time, it turned into a club.

“It was sold out in advance, there were no tickets at the door. We were actually starving and we didn’t have any dinner before the show so the promoter promised us we would have a perfectly fresh pizza when we finish. We get off stage and we’re like, ‘Ok, let’s have our pizza now’.

“But the manager was like, ‘Oh, there’s a little problem. So there was this one kid, a big fan, didn’t get any tickets, crawled on the roof, and the roof had like a glass window there, and he broke he fell through it and fell right onto our hot pizzas’. So we didn’t get any pizza that night, I think he was OK though,” the DJ laughed.

Daily Star also caught up with the double-act to discuss their future plans and why they love playing to a UK crowd so much ahead of their Hospitality Weekender gig which is taking place at Butlins Bognor Regis.

Camo explained: “The UK has the richest culture when it comes to drum and bass, especially at the moment, the raves are amazing. What you would call a festival in the rest of the world, it’s just about a normal club night in the UK. Everyone is open to rave their asses off.”

Krooked added: “In the UK, if somebody throws a middle finger at you while you play, it’s actually a good sign. Whereas in the rest of the world, if somebody throws a middle finger around in the crowd, you’re probably getting some weird looks thrown back at them. It’s a compliment here.”

The Butlins event will take place from January 31 – February 2 at the popular holiday resort for an adults-only weekend of drum and bass and will see the pair play, along with other top acts such as Wilkinson, Mozey, Bou, Disrupta, Pola and Bryson, plus many more.

Talking about the show, Krooked urged fans to come along by saying: “I think it’s a bit different to your typical Drum and Bass Weekender. The venue is cool, there’s never been a drum and bass show there before. You can actually relax there as it’s a resort. So you can rave and then detox and just sit in the sauna. I think it’s a nice mix, especially in the winter time, it’s good to get out a little bit, you know and stretch your legs.” Before Camo added: “It’s whatever you hearts desire and I’m glad we’re going to be there too.”

Talking about their other plans next year, Camo revealed the Red Bull Symphonic Show will take a lot of their focus but they are still keen to play as and when they can. He explained: “The calendar is slowly filling up nicely, but we’re actually trying to keep it a bit more sparse this year than for next year, than this year, because I think this year we’re close to 80 shows that we did, and next year we have some some big shows on the calendar that we are already concentrating on now, which is the Red Bull Symphonic show.

Krooked agreed: “We’re basically starting working on it now and it’s gonna take all the spare time we have. It’s a huge project. It’s a free festival in Vienna, a big one. It’s obviously huge, huge piece of work so we’re happy to play a little bit less next year.”

As the duo gear up for a stomper of a year, fans will also be pleased to know that they are not too busy to throw out some new bangers. Camo revealed: “We have a couple of songs that are almost finished, so we’re trying to fill them in and get the vocals sorted.

“There is a Wilkinson collab with Mefjus coming out probably early next year. There will definitely be some music by us but we are just very focused on our big Symphonic project as that takes a lot of time.”
