Coronation Street’s Alan Halsall has hinted at upcoming drama for his character as an ex-girlfriend makes a comeback.
The 41-year-old actor, who has been a part of the ITV soap for nearly 26 years as Tyronne Dobs, has seen his character Tyrone go through numerous breakups and reconciliations with partner Fiz Dobbs (Jennie McAlpine).
However, it seems their peaceful life might be disrupted with the return of Alina Pop, portrayed by Ruxandra Porojnicu. Alina was first introduced to viewers in 2019 when Seb Franklin (Harry Visinoni) discovered she had been trafficked into the UK to work in a nail salon, with her passport seized by her ‘boss’ to prevent her from returning home.
After establishing a life in Weatherfield, Alina quickly became a source of tension between Tyrone and his long-term partner Fiz.
The end of their nine-year relationship saw Tyrone and Alina move into the salon flat together. However, Tyrone’s pyromaniac daughter Hope (Isabella Flanagan) took a disliking to their relationship, leading to a fire in the flat that resulted in Alina miscarrying a baby, reports the Express.
She left the show in 2021. But after a three-year absence, Alina is set to return in Wednesday’s episode of the ITV soap (August 7).
Discussing the implications of Alina’s return for Tyrone, Alan Halsall appeared on Wednesday’s episode of This Morning (August 7) to hint at potential issues between the former couple.
The soap’s star hinted at chaos brewing on the cobbles saying: “This is soapland of course there is going to be trouble, and it is going to fall on Tyrone’s doorstep.” Chat show queen Josie Gibson quizzed the celeb on Fiz’s comeback clash with Alina, asking whether we’re in for a catfight.
Alan teased: “Well, of course there could be. But I think this may be a real test, or a testament. to Tyrone and Fizz’s new marriage.” Lovebirds Tyrone and Fizz, who sealed the deal last Christmas after their 2011 smooch, are back in the spotlight.
“I think anyone would feel threatened”, Alan dished, revealing Fizz’s fear over Alina’s return. “I think Tyrone would want to reassure Fizz now their relationship is different.”
He spilt the beans on the surprise that Alina brings with her one that’ll have Fizz second-guessing everything. He said: “Then Tyrone has got a juggling act of trying to keep everyone happy.” But is fresh heartache on the horizon for the newlyweds?
Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX
