Danny Dyer and his family were forced to move from their home due to “yob” neighbours.
The EastEnders hardman, 47, is currently starring in the Disney+ series Rivals, based on the saucy novel by Jilly Cooper. Notorious gangster lad Danny plays an entrepreneur despised by the upper class poshos of the fictional Cotswolds town of Rutshire.
While his character is currently being dealt blow after blow by his upper class co-stars, Danny has real experience of being hated by his neighbours. It comes after he opened up about the amount of abuse he and his family received whilst living in a house in Essex.

The Cockney geezer said in an interview on the Off Menu podcast that he had moved into a four-bedroom house in Essex with wife Jo and his family, including Love Island winner Dani. He explained that when he initially moved into the neighbourhood, people were bemused.
“When I moved in people were milling around saying, ‘What are you doing moving around here?’; questioning me, thinking I was a multi-millionaire – I wasn’t,” he recalled. However, as time went on, the family were made aware that their presence in the area was not welcome.
“It was a big step up for us, a four-bedroom house, but I’d wake up some days and there’d be eggs thrown at my house which was weird,” Danny admitted. “People resented me for moving in around there.”
He added: “If you’re going to chuck eggs at people’s houses you’d wait for their reaction. They’d throw the eggs and then f*** off home.”
Actor Danny said he would often wake up and inspect the damage done to his house every morning, often seeing “shell” everywhere from the eggs. As time went on, however, things got more serious as other items like vodka bottles were thrown at the house.
“I don’t know what the f*** I’d done but it was my character in EastEnders they didn’t like,” he explained. “It must have been. We moved to where we live now, which is lovely.”
Since leaving the estate behind, things for the family have been a lot calmer, and the family can crack on with their daily lives. However, he admitted he continues to face trolls online after his appearance on BBC genealogy show Who Do You Think You Are? which revealed he was descended from royalty.
In the show, Danny had his lineage traced back to the Tudor times, and discovered he was related to Henry VII and King Edward III. He was also related to Henry’s fixer Thomas Cromwell, and admitted he would love to play him in a movie even at the expense of abuse.
“I must play Thomas Cromwell, I’d be devastated if I don’t,” he exclaimed. “Just a kid out of Putney who rose through the ranks, f***ed off to Florence, learned loads of languages, became a lawyer, came back, became Henry’s best mate.”
