David Beckham may be golden when it comes to football, parenting and making a fashion statement, but he didn’t get rave reviews when he tried acting.
The 48-year-old made the odd small film appearance in the noughties and in 2017 shot a cameo in King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword. However, his performance was slated by viewers who accused Beckham of “terrible acting” and said it made them “cringe”. One even joked that the footy ace “deserved 2B sued” for his performance as a guard named Trigger.
However, some viewers were impressed with Becks’ silver screen skills, and his friend Guy Ritchie – who directed the film – was among those who thought he did a good job.

Speaking at the premiere, the filmmaker told Good Morning Britain: “I think he is a very talented actor. He is very confident on camera.”
“Listen he was quite a tasty footballer wasn’t he?” he added. David himself also made it clear that he didn’t have grand designs on becoming a movie star, admitting in interviews at the time that he battled a few nerves about making a cameo in Guy’s film.
He told presenter Edith Bowman at the premiere in London: “I haven’t taken a step into acting. It’s me doing something I love with a friend.”
“It’s not a new career or something I want to go into,” he added. The star – who is dad to four children with Spice Girl wife Victoria – said that he enjoyed challenging himself by trying things, but admitted that this was a bit different.
“Usually it is to do with sport, but with this I didn’t know if I was going to be OK,” he said.
King Arthur: Legend Of The Sword was unveiled in 2017, starring Charlie Hunnam as King Arthur and Jude Law as the king Vortigern. Actors Eric Bana and Djimon Hounsou were among the supporting cast of the flick.
David’s character was a guard who oversaw the prisoners that tried to pull Excalibur from the stone.
