EastEnders’ Abi Branning could be set to make an appearance on the BBC soap – despite being killed off five years ago.
The character, played by Lorna Fitzgerald, made her debut back in 2006, alongside the rest of her Branning clan. For 12 years, she was a regular in Walford and was involved in several big storylines.
However, in 2018, Lorna left the soap with Abi getting killed off. Emotional scenes aired on Christmas Day, saw Abi fall off a roof with her sister Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa) and was later declared brain dead.

The death of the character led to a fall-out in the square with mum Tanya (Jo Joyner) forced to leave Walford in 2018 after struggling with Abi’s death. Similarly, her sister Lauren also left the same year.
But over in the soap at the moment, Lauren has made her return. In episodes this week, she and cousin Penny Branning (Kitty Castledine) left Paris for Walford – but Lauren was later arrested for smuggling drugs – planted by her cousin.
Now, it’s been claimed Lauren isn’t the only Branning to be making a comeback. AI reckons sister Abi could also return in a huge twist.
Daily has quizzed one of the world’s most popular artificially intelligent “creative” tools Bard AI to see if Abi could come back to EastEnders. The program responded: “The return of Abi Branning to EastEnders is an intriguing possibility.”
It then listed a few of “the potential scenarios.” The first one includes Abi “returning from the dead.” The system said: ”Abi could appear as a ghost, revisiting characters connected to her, offering closure, or even delivering cryptic messages. This could be a temporary plot device or a recurring element, adding a touch of the supernatural.”
Another scenario includes a “flashback or dream sequence.” Bard AI explained: “Abi’s return could be confined to flashbacks or dream sequences, exploring past events or unresolved issues from her character’s perspective. This wouldn’t necessitate a permanent return but could offer valuable insights and emotional depth.”

EastEnders did something similar last year when Roxy Mitchell made a return to the soap – despite being killed off in 2017. The blonde bombshell, played by Rita Simons, appeared as a hallucination during her daughter’s therapy session.
Another major twist that could also see Abi return, would be that of a “secret twin or lookalike.” The system claimed: “A doppelganger or long-lost twin could be introduced, bearing a striking resemblance to Abi. This could lead to mistaken identity, dramatic reveals, and exploration of family secrets.”
EastEnders airs Monday to Thursday on BBC One at 7.30pm
