Emmerdale legend sparks exit fears after brutal putdown leaving fans concerned

Cain Dingle could be waving goodbye to Emmerdale after some distressing scenes involving his wife Moira recently aired.

The drama unfolded in Tuesday’s extended episode (June 18) when Moira Dingle and Amy Wyatt visited poor Matty Barton behind bars. Viewers are aware that Matty was falsely accused of stabbing Samson Dingle.

After a heart-to-heart where Matty confessed his fears, Moira promised to pull out all the stops to free her son from prison as she could see him clearly suffering. Knowing Josh Cope (Osian Morgan) was the true culprit, Cain tried to convince Samson to come clean and save Matty from prison time.

But his efforts were in vain. He later had to break the news to Moira that Samson wasn’t budging on his version of events.

Later, at the Woolpack, Moira got Mackenzie Boyd to keep Charity Dingle busy while she cornered Samson in the loo. She pressed his hand into his stab wound, warning him: “This pain is going to get a whole lot worse unless you start telling the truth.”

Charity burst in just as Mack restrained his sister, and despite Moira’s pleas, Samson wished for Matty to stay locked up. Back home, Moira condemned Cain for not aiding Matty, prompting him to tell her to steer clear of Samson.

Moira fiercely said: “I wouldn’t need to go near him if you stepped up. You reckon you’re the head of this family. Start acting like it.”

Moira had a go at her husband Cain, saying “the old Cain” could have convinced Samson to confess. Claiming: “You go to prison for your own son but you won’t even get your hands dirty for mine.”

She went on to suggest that the reason behind Cain’s refusal to confront Samson was fear of a reprisal, referencing Aaron Dingle’s (Danny Miller) past assault on his uncle. “One nephew already put you in hospital, so you bottled it because you thought the other one might do the same,” Moira accused.

She added: “You are not the man I married. The old Cain, he’d have taken Samson apart. The old Cain always had my back.”

She further claimed that respect for Cain was non-existent after Aaron’s attack. Cain attempted to keep his cool, hoping to simply ignore his furious wife, thinking she was just “upset and lashing out”. Yet, Moira was insistent on provoking him, but to no avail as he remained calm.

This seemed to anger Moira more, leading her to call him a “coward”. But after Moira’s bitter words, fans thought she may have went too far.

One viewer said: “I think Moira went a bit too far in her comments to cain by the end. I know she was trying to wind him up but went too personal.” Another added: “That Moira is always saying ‘Don’t do it Cain’…..now it’s ‘Do it Cain’. Wish she’d make her mind up.”
