Ex Corrie couple set for reunion as killer cruise show renewed for two more series

Two former Coronation Street icons have managed to keep hold of their lead roles in a returning Channel 5 drama.

Catherine Tyldesley and Shayne Ward are set to reunite again after both kept their major roles in the upcoming series of The Good Ship Murder. Both Ward and Tyldesley were able to make an impression on the producers of the show as the series was renewed for another two seasons.

As well as this, fans of the hit drama will be thrilled to see a Christmas special which is also reportedly in the works, though it is not clear whether Shayne and Catherine will star in the one-off episode as yet. Both Shayne and Catherine have extensive acting experience thanks to their stints on the ITV soap.

Catherine took on the role of the feisty Eva, who managed to make her way around the street, before finishing up with Aidan Connor, played by Shayne Ward himself. Ward left the show in 2018 when his character would take his own life in a heart-breaking episode that left viewers sobbing – Catherine herself left soon after.

But now the pair will be working together once again in what Channel 5 bosses has described as another series filled with more sun, sea and menacing storylines. Shayne is set to return to the role of cabaret singer Jack Grayling as he leaves his life behind to become a detective, whilst Catherine returns as ambitious First Officer Kate Woods.

The pair will now reunite for a new Channel 5 show

A slew of other soap stars will also make appearances in the new series, including Brookside and Coronation Street icon Claire Sweeney, who will take on the role of Cruise Director Beverley Carnell. Similarly, Hollyoaks regular Ross Adams will be popping up often as he portrays Colin Smallwood.

Fans responded well to the first series of the show which aired last year, averaging an audience of about 2.1million people per show. The positive reception from viewers prompted bosses at the channel to give the show another two seasons, capitalising on the ratings success of the drama.

Speaking about the show’s renewal, Channel 5’s Commissioning Editor Paul Testar said that the show is a perfect combination for viewers and producers alike. “The blend of music, mystery, and beautiful locations was a winning formula that our viewers loved in series one, and we’re excited to be working with Clapperboard [production company] again to bring this series back.”

Filming the series will be a particularly tough task as the show will be recorded on a live cruise ship with about 6,000 tourists stopping off in eight different countries. However, Clapperboard’s Managing Director – Mike Benson – said that they were “delighted” that the show has resonated with so many people.
