First trailer drops for bonkers new horror film Catnado – the Sharknado spin-off nobody asked for

Bonkers disaster movie Sharknado was released a decade ago, with its viral success spawning five sequels and a host of copycat films. Since the original released and depicted shark-infested tornadoes plaguing LA, knock-offs like Clownado and the somehow even more implausible Monsternado have emerged.

Cat lovers will now be able to get in on the action, as Wild Eye Releasing have just dropped a trailer for their take on the unlikely-thing-in-a-twister concept. This time, our feline friends will be caught up in a twister in the imaginatively titled ‘Catnado’.

According to the film’s synopsis: “The world faces a horrific onslaught of tornadoes, each unleashing hordes of enraged and deadly cats upon humanity! As chaos reigns, a disparate group of individuals have one mission: to stop this feline fury.”

It continues: “But against such odds, and with only one life to spare per person, their battle becomes a cat-astrophic struggle for survival. And when the fur flies it will be a meow-ssacre!”.

Catnado will be an anthology film with segments directed by Donald Farmer, Curtis Everitt, Alaine Huntington, Blair Kelly, James M. Myers, Melvin Pittman, Tim Ritter, Jerry Williams, and Logan Winton. It stars Erica Rowell Green, Joshua G Otto, Blair Kelly, Serena Salieri, and Tucky Williams.

The trailer shows a few close-ups of cats as a narrator explains how the animals can bring “joy and happiness” but also be cold-blooded killers. It then leaps into the action with a host of people getting attacked by cats and the big reveal of what the ‘Catnado’ looks like.

In one scene in the trailer, a stuffed toy cat is passed off as a real one. One commenter joked: “That toy cat hitting the car window is legit everything,” while another added that overall the film “looks better than Cats The Musical.”

Catnado is slated for release on October 22 this year. It won’t be out in cinemas, instead releasing straight to VOD and DVD.
