Dan Wootton won’t be investigated further by the Metropolitan Police following allegations of sexual misconduct that the GB News anchor strongly denied.
Last July, the 40-year-old presenter admitted he had made “errors of judgement” but denied criminal activity after several allegations were made against him. The claims, first published in the Byline Times, included offering money to media colleagues in return for explicit material of themselves and using fake identities online.
Wootton issued a statement about the investigation on Wednesday (February 21) after police found no evidence of criminal activity. He wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “I was brought up to trust in the English legal system; to believe in freedom, due process, natural justice and the rule of law – the right of every man or woman to a fair trial, and the presumption of innocence until proven guilty in a court of law.

“The accusations made against me were completely spurious – lies designed to destroy my career where complainants were actuated by malice. Well six months on, I have now been completely cleared in two investigations by the Metropolitan and Scottish Police, who have confirmed they will be taking no further action.”
“While I knew this would always be the outcome, the process is now the punishment, with social media acting as the executioner. Margaret Thatcher once said that if you ever get trial by media, or guilt by accusation, that day freedom dies.”
“She was right. It is high time that all of our ancient rights were once again upheld, chief among them the right to be presumed innocent until found guilty in a court of law. If it falls to me to be the champion of those rights, then so be it. It is a fight I am more than willing to take up, not just for me but for all of us.”
A complaint against Wootton was made to the Metropolitan Police last year and an investigation was carried out, but he was never arrested or charged. He said on his GB News show in July that he was the victim of a “witch hunt” by “nefarious players”.
In September, GB News said it was going to “monitor” allegations against their presenter but insisted the claims had not been “proved by an independent body”. Dan was suspended from the station in September after his vile broadcast with Laurence Fox, who made “misogynistic” comments about PoliticsJoe reporter Ava Evans.
One of the vile remarks politician Fox made came when he asked what “self-respecting man” would “climb into bed” with the presenter. Fox was axed from GB News and Wootton was suspended – both ended up apologising to Evans.
