GMB’s Kate Garraway missing from show as co-star steps in to explain absence

Good Morning Britain star Kate Garraway was missing from the programme.

The broadcaster, 56, was due to present GMB with Adil Ray, who was recently confirmed as Ben Shephard’s replacement following his move to This Morning. But viewers were instead met with Adil, 49, and Charlotte Hawkins.

The mum-of-two was forced to pull out of a number of work commitments over the last few days. She abandoned her Smooth Radio show during its broadcast on Wednesday (March 6), leaving listeners concerned.

The presenter was also missing from Thursday’s edition of GMB (March 7), with Ranvir Singh stepping in and fronting the programme alongside Richard Madeley. But her absence has now been explained by Charlotte, 48, and Adil.

The TV duo kicked off the show explaining that Kate was meant to be hosting after she was named one of Britain’s 50 most influential women by the Independent. But Charlotte confirmed Kate had been hit with an illness, after her co-star Tina Hobley suggested Kate had no voice as she was “sent home” from her radio show.

The newsreader told viewers: “She would be here today but she’s lost her voice. She’s all well but she can’t speak.” Adil joked: “She’s lost her voice, she’s been too influential in the past year.”

Charlotte added: “I know, she obviously has been hasn’t she,” as Adil chipped in: “Be less influential Kate and get better soon.” It comes after Adil delightedly confirmed he would be replacing Ben, 49, who stepped down from GMB after 10 years.

Adil confirmed the news on social media, writing: “From Friday, I’ll be back @gmb for most Fridays until the end of May. First run is the next three Fridays until the Easter break.

“Hope you’ll join me. In the current climate, it feels like a huge privilege to be on morning telly. Would love it if you joined us from 6am.”

Ben and Cat Deeley were announced as This Morning’s new presenters. The duo will front the programme from Monday to Thursday while Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary will present on a Friday.
