One of Hollyoaks’ most well-loved actresses has announced that she has quit acting and moved out of the country.
In a heart-breaking video uploaded to her social media channels, Ali Bastian admitted that she had been going through a lot of personal struggles in her life. She also admitted that she was in need of a fresh start.
In the clip, Ali, who played Becca Dean on the Channel 4 soap, said that she had been suffering from major burnout in her life, having settled in London for her career. She also admitted that she was still grappling with the loss a close friend in the run-up to the birth of her second child.

Now, Ali has left the UK behind and has instead moved out to her new home alongside her children and husband in the west coast of Ireland. The video showed how Bastian said goodbye to her time in London and then saw her journey across the Irish sea to her new abode.
Ali, alongside actor hubby David O’ Mahony, 41, were seen boxing up their possessions and gradually making the move to Ireland in the clip. She also included some intimate footage of the family’s move as they travelled by both car and aeroplane with their daughters Isabella and Isla, one and four.
Writing in the caption, Ali blubbered as she bid her London pad farewell: “Saying good bye to my London flat was very emotional, I’ve lived there for about 18 years. I rented it first and then bought it a few years later.”
Bastian said that it was in her London home where she felt the most secure, due to having moved quite often in her childhood. She spent much of her adult life in the flat, saying that she was in the house for all the major moments in her life, including Covid and the birth of her babies.
“I never thought I would want to leave but life had other plans,” she admitted. “I had a very difficult second birth and postpartum period with my second and in the end my little fam went to Ireland for a circuit breaker last year as my body just wasn’t healing.
“Two weeks after being in Ireland my c-section finally closed up, I was about seven months post-partum by then. My nervous system finally had the break it so desperately needed – I was certainly suffering a major burn out at that point and London life was just too much on top of everything else.”
Ali said that slowly over time, the plan was hatched to up sticks and move to Ireland. Giving more details about her new life, she described the move as “more than a house renno project”, but rather is “for our best chance of healing”.
Several of Ali’s co-stars were quick to gush over the actress, as many congratulated her on being so brave and open with how she felt. Similarly, Kellé Bryan, who also appears on Loose Women, said: “Ali, I sincerely wish you and your family all the very best with your move. I pray for light, peace and lots of rays of sunshine.”
